About Christ Lutheran Church > Rev. Dr. Norman F. David

The Pastor of Christ Lutheran is the Rev. Dr. Norman F. David who is 60 years of age with 34 years experience as an ordained Lutheran minister. A native of Westfield, Massachusetts, he is the third of five children born to Rev. Casimir S. David and Mildred Mennen David, of Polish and German heritage.

Rev. David's father was pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church in Westfield, MA from 1936 until his death in 1963. The congregation is affiliated with the national Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

Rev. David graduated from Westfield High School in 1963, received his Associate of Arts from Concordia Collegiate Institute in Bronxville, NY in 1965, and his Bachelor of Arts from Concordia Senior College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana in 1967. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO in 1971 and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia in 1997.

Pastor David interned as an understudy in ministry with Rev. Arthur Traugott, the pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church in North Olmsted, 1969–70. His first parish was First Lutheran Church in Manhattan Beach, CA, 1971–76. In 1976 he accepted the call to Christ Church Lutheran in Belmont, MA, where he continues to serve into his 28th year.

Pastor married Donna Sue Ezell, a native of Indianapolis, IN at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Ft. Wayne, IN in 1968. They met in 1966 at a social hosted by the Nursing School of Parkview Methodist Hospital in Ft. Wayne, where Donna received her license as a Registered Nurse in 1968. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Louis University in 1971, and a Master of Science in Nursing from UCLA in 1974. In 1980, she accepted the position as nurse and community service coordinator at Belmont Hill School, a private school for boys, and has been elected by the Town of Belmont to serve on its public Board of Health since 1993.

Pastor and Donna have three children—Jeremy, Eric and Jennifer, who were raised and educated in Belmont and are now grown, have all earned college degrees, become married, and live respectively in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and California. They have three granddaughters. The Davids' dog is a chocolate Labrador Retriever is named Aja (pronounced "Asia").

In his life as an ordained Lutheran minister, Pastor David has been a clergy member of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) 1971–78, the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches (AELC) 1978–88, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) 1988–2003, making his odyssey along with the congregation to maintain an authentic Lutheran ministry amid changes and divisions in the Lutheran movement. Currently independent of larger church affiliation, he looks forward with the congregation to joining the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC), a post-denominational national body that has formed out of the ELCA to embrace the deeper unity God gives in Christ Jesus amid human political and ecclesiastical organizations.

Pastor David sings and plays guitar, enjoys gardening, automotive repair, home improvement, exercise, jogging and Contract Bridge. He and Donna like to cook, travel and visit the children and grandchildren. They are both very active in providing help and counsel to other people through church, school and community.
